Watch the Throne: Jay-Z and Kanye West
While I didn’t shoot this show, I still had the need to talk about it. To non-rap/hip-hop fans, you probably think it is absurd they are practically selling out their shows in arenas across the country. However to the fans, it might have felt like a once-in-a-lifetime show. Rap artists don’t constantly tour like alternative or rock bands; the last time I saw Jay-Z was on the Hard Knock Life tour in 1999. So to see Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborate for an entire show at the Sprint Center (11/29/11) was irresistible.
I don’t think I have ever been to show where I knew 99% of the songs….not even 311. They did a great job having their own show style to differentiate-Jay-Z was dressed down compared to Kanye in his leather kilt but still had flash with the ever-present pyrotechnics. Kanye remained in the dark for some of his solos with elaborate light shows surrounding him. They both held their own whether they were flying solo or sharing the stage with each other. It was a concert I wouldn’t have wanted to miss and I am glad I didn’t.
